Some 86 species of animals have been registered in the area, including birds, amphibians and reptiles, around 15 of which are endangered. The most commonly seen include the grey-hooded sierra finch, South American crested duck, Andean goose, hummingbird and rufous-banded miner. Birds of prey and condors nest around the highest peaks. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see them from the valley and even get a photo.
